"Nevousinstallezpas" means - don't settle, act and react, dream but don't fall asleep .. live!

While searching for "lilacs" to put in a treasury I was making on Etsy, I found the beautiful necklace pictured on the right .

I found this piece so lovely and unique, it drew me in to see more of this wonderful Belgium artist's work.  Veerle's jewelry is appealing on so many levels - color, shape, texture.   Each piece is interesting and stunning.

Veerle says:

"I'm addicted to crochet work and silk. In almost all of my items you will find these two elements. All beads, both crocheted and silk fabric, are made by myself. And all one of a kind.

Every yarn and fabric you see in my textile jewelry are pure silk. when I use other materials (eg cork in my clasps) I make sure that they can stand some water so you can handwash the jewelry if necessary."

Following are two excerpts from Veerle's blog:

"Een vreemde eend in de bijt", is a Dutch expression. Translated literally, it means ‘ a strange duck in the hole’. Meaning someone who does not really fit in her/his neighbourhood. The dictionary translates is as: an intruder. But for me it doesn’t feel necessarily negative. It feels like someone has personility and dares to be her/himself …

I used this expression to illustrate how I sometimes feel at work. Not really fitting in the mainstream. but that’s ok, I have my crochetwork to bring me in perfect balance.

Oh, how I love the city I live in (Gent, Belgium). Doing a walk through the city centre on Sunday, is pure joy. If possible I combine it with a museum visit. Yesterday I saw a temporary exhibition of historical textile objects in the Design Museum (see the pictures).

In the afternoon I finished some earrings. A real mess on my worktable (findings, all my beads around, …). But afterwards I took a picture of some of the finished earrings, on the flyer of the exhibition I saw in the morning. So, the circle is round.

I have thoroughly enjoyed looking into a bit about this wonderful artisan,
and hope you have enjoyed it as well.
