Guestbook/Comments

The Quiltsy Team on Etsy is currently holding a block swap.  This is my first ever block swap, and I am very excited to participate.  We have 17 quilters involved in the swap.  Each of us is making 17 six inch blocks in the color scheme of blue and green.  As an extra challenge to myself, I plan to make all the blocks from fabric already in my stash, no buying allowed.  When our blocks are complete, we ship them off to one member of the swap (FabricsnQuilts, see her shop here).  She sorts the blocks and redistributes them to each member so that we end up with 17 different blocks to do with as we like.  I can't wait to see the quilts which will result from this swap.  I can't wait to put together my quilt made with blocks from so many talented and varied quilters.

To go along with this challenge, I have decided to post the blocks and instructions for making them here.

The first block is called "Bright Hopes."  Aren't quilt block names fabulous!  I am usually drawn to the design first, but if it has a great name, I am hooked.

Here's how you make it.

Materials needed:

scraps of three contrasting fabrics in your choice of colors -  A, B, C

Cut as follows for each block:

Fabric A - One 3 1/2 " square
Fabric B - Two 2" x 5" rectangles
Fabric C - Two 2" x 5" rectangles

Sewing:

All seam allowances are  1/4"

-Stitch one B to A along one edge, stopping 1" from end of A.  B will extend beyond A.

-Press seam allowance toward B.

-Stitch one C to left side of B/A.

-Press seam allowance toward C

-Stitch second B to bottom of C/A.

-Press seam allowance toward B.

-Stitch 2nd C to final side of A.

-Finish stitching first C to A/B to complete block
