 Dreams of Summer

I've been dreaming of one of my favorite places to be in the summer.  A few years ago my daughter and a girlfriend traveled to Nantucket, an island off Cape Cod, Massachusetts.  They stayed in a youth hostel at Surfside Beach and had a marvelous time.  They liked it so much that the next summer they talked seven more of us into going along.  It was the best vacation I've ever had.  Certainly a good part of that had to do with the company I was in, part of it was the adventure of staying in a hostel for the first time and in exploring the island, but a big part of it was Nantucket itself.  With a flavor all its own, Nantucket is like a theme park without the rides.  Exquisite beaches, cobblestone streets, weathered shingle houses all in a shade of grey, glorious hydrangeas, walking, biking, or riding the bus anywhere and everywhere on the island, great restaurants and shops, all add up to a unique and dreamy vacation hideaway.  We spent most of our time on the beach, walking the sand for miles, riding the surf with the seals, laying in the sun too long.  In the evenings we played rowdy games of spoons in the family like atmosphere of the hostel with other guests.  We cooked our meals in the large communal kitchen, and bedded down in one big room at night.
