"Kimbuktu" is a nickname given to me years ago by a friend. The nickname reminds me of that other name - Timbuktu. You've heard, "from here to Timbuktu," right? According to legend, "timbuktu" is a combination of a word meaning "place," and the name of a woman, "Buktu," known for her honesty. Travelers would entrust their extra baggage to Buktu's care and, when asked where they had left their belongings, would answer, "I left them at Tin Buktu" meaning the place where the woman Buktu lived.
Another explanation for the word is a place far away, almost at the other end of the world.
